This invited paper is an introduction to the First Interna-tional csp Solver Competition, which was organised by cpai’2005 com-petition organising committee. It provides an outline of Volume II of theproceedings of the cpai’2005 workshop, introduces the contestants andtheir solvers, describes the criteria for ranking the solvers, and presentsthe main results of the competition.
